Southern California Seahorses

Missionary Athletes International was founded in 1983 in La Habra, CA to share the message of Jesus Christ in the environment of soccer. At that time it was one office using the Seahorse name for ministry through:

• Teams - men's and women's amateur teams and later a Premier Development League Men's team.
• Camps - developmental camps for kids with a Christ-centered emphasis.
• Short Term Missions Trips - high school, college, and adult teams traveling internationally to work with pastors and missionaries to do evangelism, discipleship and leadership training.

Bill's responsibilities with the Seahorses:

• Sports Ministry Training - provide leadership for discipleship and training of players on the Premier Development League team (college-age elite team that plays April - July). Also to be available to teach/train internationally where needed (2011 - sports ministry conference in Cuba).
• International Short Term Missions - responsible for recruiting and leading teams (2011 to Japan, 2012 to the Czech Republic).
• Summer/Winter Camps - help organize and lead six summer camps and two winter camps for kids.
• Writing Materials - helping to organize and expand training materials for MAI.
• Ongoing Ministry - oversee and participate in local ministries such as after school programs and conducting clinics for youth soccer associations.
• Office Administration - assist the director with formulation and administration of office budgets.

Missionary Athletes International

MAI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1983 to share the message of Jesus Christ using the sport of soccer as a bridge to reach people around the world. More countries belong to FIFA, the organization that governs international soccer competition, than belong to the United Nations. Almost anywhere on the planet a soccer ball will attract a crowd and open doors for us to build relationships and share the Gospel.

Now headquartered in Charlotte, NC MAI has ministry offices in Charlotte, Chicago, IL, and La Mirada, CA. We also have a missionary family in the Ukraine and an affiliate Seahorse ministry in Japan.
